I'LL DO IT!
Güliz woke up very early in the morning and on her way. Since her workplace was far from her home, she would get up early in the morning and make several transfers to reach her workplace. The people in the office were amazed at how she traveled all this way without complaining. “We complain even when we travel ten minutes, how can you be here on time every day without saying a word?” Guliz was smiling and went on with her work.
Everyone in the office had a specific task. No one took any
extra responsibility outside of their duties. On the other hand, Güliz would
help whoever asked for help, and would say “I'll do it” for all the tasks that
everyone else avoided doing.
At certain times in the workplace, these balances would be reversed. When the end of the year came, teammates who had been avoiding work all year would jump into all the work saying “I'll do it” in order to look like they were doing work. While these periods were very busy for everyone, they were much less intense for Güliz. Because everyone took responsibility, even if it was only for a month. At the same time, they didn't want Güliz to quit her job any more than they wanted Güliz to quit her job, otherwise how else could they spend eleven months of the year comfortably...
One day, Güliz met with her old friend Beyza and while
talking about her family and business life, Beyza said; “How long will you
continue like this, Güliz? Everybody who comes and goes puts all the hard work
on you. Even when we are going to meet, you say don't get tired, I will take
you out of your job. If I didn't love you, this is a situation that would work
for me too, but I can't spare you. Why do you let yourself be humiliated so
much?”
Güliz often heard such words. From the outside, they might
have been right, but it wasn't as difficult for her as they thought. Instead of
being selfish and choosing the easiest jobs like the others, she waited for the
job that no one else had chosen to come to her. This situation was even
pleasant for him. “We'll see what adventure awaits me this time,” she was
saying.
The end of the year that everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived and promotions were being discussed at work. Güliz had been working for the same company for five years. Although she didn't show it, she was actually expecting a promotion. During her job interview, she received feedback from her manager that she was not taking too much responsibility for her work and that she needed to stand out more. She never expected to be applauded for her work. It just bothered her that her efforts were so unappreciated. His family said, “You say you have done so much work, look, even those who came after you have been promoted. You are still at the same level. If you had done more of your own work instead of doing other people's work, you would have been a manager by now.” They have shared their support(!) with Güliz.
Within a few years, Güliz had lost her job due to a trap set
by a teammate. A few months after this, Güliz was offered a job abroad by a
former manager who had left her job and Güliz accepted the offer.
She had started her new life, all the balances at home and
at her old workplace were already in chaos, everyone was wondering “How are we
going to do all this work?” and looking for other solutions. On Güliz's side,
things were going well. Now she was in the city she wanted, doing the job she
loved. When she looked back, she did not regret any of the extra
responsibilities she took on. Because she knew that the return of goodness
was nothing but goodness. No effort in life was wasted.
In this life, one avoids taking responsibility and being the
“Doormat” of the environment. Because at that moment it seems profitable to
avoid that job and save the moment. When we look back, that job comes back to
us even bigger. On the contrary, the earlier a responsibility is taken, the
easier it is to take steps. But not everyone can see this reality. The curtain
between appearances and reality opens only for those who have made real
efforts...
